OpenClaw

Point OpenClaw at PlayOn so your agent can bootstrap and manage game servers.

Point OpenClaw at PlayOn’s MCP endpoint to install skills, create and start servers, and publish player panels. Overview: External agents (MCP).

Before you start

  1. Install PlayOn on the party box and create the Owner (quick start).
  2. In PlayOn: Settings → External agents (MCP) → create a token (name it OpenClaw).
  3. Copy the MCP URL (…/mcp) and the one-time token. Details: MCP overview.

Connect OpenClaw

Add PlayOn as an MCP / tools server in OpenClaw’s config using Streamable HTTP:

  • URL: http://<playon-host>:8787/mcp (or your HTTPS origin + /mcp)
  • Auth header: Authorization: Bearer <playon_token>

Example shape (adapt to OpenClaw’s config schema if field names differ):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "playon": {
      "url": "http://<host>:8787/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer playon_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Ensure OpenClaw’s runtime can reach that host on your LAN or VPN.

Example asks

Using PlayOn, install Minecraft from the playon.games catalog, create a server for tonight, start it, publish the player panel, and send me the /play URL and join steps.

Restart the Minecraft server and confirm players can query it.

Tips

  • Treat the PAT like a host admin password; revoke it in PlayOn if OpenClaw’s machine is lost.
  • Enable auto-approve on the token only if you trust unattended OpenClaw runs.
