Cursor

Connect Cursor to PlayOn over MCP so the agent can bootstrap and manage game servers.

Cursor drives PlayOn through Streamable HTTP MCP. After you connect, ask it to install skills, create servers, and publish /play — or handle day-to-day ops. Overview: External agents (MCP).

Before you start

  1. PlayOn installed; Owner created (quick start).
  2. Access token minted under Settings → External agents (MCP) (MCP overview).
  3. MCP URL from Settings, e.g. http://192.168.1.10:8787/mcp.

Add the MCP server in Cursor

In Cursor MCP settings / mcp.json, add a server entry shaped like:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "playon": {
      "url": "http://<host>:8787/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer playon_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Paste the exact URL and token from PlayOn Settings (Settings also offers a copyable snippet after you create a token). Restart or reload MCP servers if Cursor requires it.

Example asks

Using the PlayOn MCP tools, install Minecraft from the skill catalog, create and start a LAN server, publish the player panel, and tell me the join URL.

List PlayOn servers and show health for the Minecraft instance.

Tips

  • Cursor must reach the PlayOn host over the network (same LAN or VPN). localhost only works if Cursor runs on that host.
  • Revoke the token in PlayOn if the machine that stores mcp.json is compromised.
