Codex
Connect OpenAI Codex (or Codex CLI) to PlayOn MCP for LAN bootstrap and ops.
Codex can call PlayOn tools over MCP after you mint a host token. Overview: External agents (MCP).
Before you start
- PlayOn running with an Owner (quick start).
- Token + MCP URL from Settings → External agents (MCP) (overview).
Wire MCP
Configure Codex’s MCP / tools settings with:
{
"mcpServers": {
"playon": {
"url": "http://<host>:8787/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer playon_…"
}
}
}
}
Use the snippet PlayOn shows after token creation when it matches your Codex version. If Codex expects a different field name for HTTP MCP, keep the same URL and Authorization header.
Example asks
Connect to PlayOn and stand up Minecraft for a LAN party: install skill, create server, start, publish player panel, give me join steps.
List servers via PlayOn MCP and stop anything that is idle.
Tips
- Network path from the Codex environment to the party box must be open.
- Revoke tokens you no longer use.
